Does anyone want in on Aion's closed beta event this weekend? If so...I think I've got an extra key. Lemme know and I'll forward the email.

I updated my main dreamshards.org portfolio site tonight. PHEW. That was a solid 5 or 6 hours of work, after a solid work day of work, and my poor eyesight is so broken @_@ But! The site looks a million times better, I think (hope). There are still a few tweaks I'd like to make...like how to get the darn footer to keep going across...and maybe to put up a "sketch" gallery. It's gonna have to wait for later though.

What's it called again? Undertow? Yeah it has a page.
Spell-check and Mekkin do not get along.
Anyway, like it says over there - I've been preoccupied, mostly with the Sims 3 and Aion beta and the big commission which is finally finished but I cannot post yet. And more recently by the trauma of my kitty not coming home in the past week. ;____; Meow-meow....I miss you.
I really ought to catch up on the internet. I haven't felt like checking anything lately, and the longer it goes on, the more daunting it seems to get back into it. Bleck. Energy...where have you gone?! -_-

Annnd my wonderful vacation is over. Le sigh. There was a nice big lightning storm to see me off, which only delayed my plane a little, though it was still a late night. I woke up all too soon to a sunny day and an incongruous power outage. o_o Thankfully it returned in time for a big coffee; a lifesaver during a hectic work day in which we managed to break the front doors while driving a VW bug inside. WIN!
I did manage to pick up a ton of books, though! The latest Temeraire (already finished it on the plane), Foxmask by Juliet Marillier, a new one by Jacqueline Carey, Mistborn by B. Sanderson, The Lies of Locke Lamora, Sebastian by Anne Bishop, and the 3rd Sharing Knife book by Bujold. Oh, and Persuasion by Jane Austen - mostly because I saw an AWFUL movie version and was assured the book was better. My grandmother also gave me The Elegance of the Hedgehog, which is very different, but I like it so far. There were a couple more on my list of suggestions which I couldn't find in stores, unfortunately.
On the trip out, I read The Code of Love. The title is...kind of awful and misleading really; it sounds like a bad romance novel. I'd classify it as romance still - it's just not the smutty bodice-ripper kind, and happens to be actually well-written. It reminded me vaguely of The Scarlet Pimpernel (one of my favorite books, ever), so if you're into that sort of thing, I'd recommend it :D
ETA: Oh! I forgot - my Blood Elf Love picture got featured on the World of Warcraft page as a comic contest honorable mention while I was on my trip XD A couple people have mentioned it (especially since it says it's by "Prylle," my in-game name) which is cool, since I hadn't been checking. ^_^ Yay!

I'm sure I'll be hitting up the bookstore again while there, so if anyone's got any new recommendations, please share! I suggest this, which is...well, just read the description, if the title alone doesn't convince you: Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.

Also...Star Trek is...awesome where no awesome has gone before. Or something. :D Space movies always make me sad that I'll be dead by the time we have space academies. I'd probably be useless for anything other than typesetting the names of the ships, but still. SPACE! The final frontier *_*

Okay - next Undertow page is posted!
I'm trying to get back into the swing of weekly updates after my con hiatus. Shouldn't be too hard...I'm enjoying my subject matter at the moment X3
Also, I'm trying to motivate myself into doing all these things I've been meaning to, such as open the store and write some freaking tutorials. Research into CafePress shows that their prices are kind of ridiculous, but Zazzle isn't any better (actually I think Zazzle is worse, since they charge more for printing on black, which is usually what I want). CafePress is only $5 a month for the store, buuut...I dunno. I have no idea how well things will actually sell. So far I have 5 designs (none of which are comic related, yet). We'll see ^_^; As for tutorials...I'm not even sure where to start. Blaaaaah! It'd be awesome, though, to be able to get them printed in book form someday when there's enough material. $_$...
In fangirl news...I'm completely psyched for the new Xmen movie, ever since I found out Gambit's in it :D Best mutant EVER! And I'm even more psyched for Star Trek. Simon Pegg movies are always good and now he's on a spaceship. What more could you want!? (A zombie).

MAAAN SakuraCon '09...you were BUSY! I'm completely exhausted from talking to all those people and running back and forth to the convention. It went really well, however, and I made WAY more than enough to break even :D Garrett and I celebrated by going to a nice restaurant and eating filet mignons after happily counting handfuls of cash :D All in all, a resounding success. I'd love to go again next year, but the battle for Artist Alley tables is going to be even more intense, so we'll see. (Or, I have 1 year to come up with some awesome product and get myself into the dealer's hall XD)
I met a whole bunch of cool people whose names I don't remember...I want to draw them instead. Wiggly dance guy, guy I thought I knew but maybe not, weird unsmiling draw-me guy, awesome Undertow fan girl with the french bulldog story, and the chick who has my dream job doing character concept for Guild Wars!!!! (AUGH XD). I also made a short foray into the exhibition hall during which I breezed past the anime merchandise straight to the small AION booth and gushed all over their updated character creator and the poor guy who was promoting the game. I think I signed up for the beta twice. Muahaha. (Beta in summer! Release in fall!!!) Maybe even 3 times, since apparently everyone who tested it at PAX last summer is already scheduled to be in the beta XD
Anyway...Garrett has a few pictures on his camera; maybe I'll post 'em when he transfers it over. For now, I have to go chill on the couch. It missed me.

AHH SakuraCon is next weekend!!! There's so much to get ready still @_@ I already got plastic print sleeves, and ordered promotional business cards, and some things are printed but there are more to make...I don't know if I have any keychains left or if I do, where they are...Garrett's going to help me make an arch frame thing for the table tomorrow after work. There are still some pieces I'd like to finish, but today I should run out to Staples and get some supplies. This is stressful @_@ Also, I better do my taxes at some point here.
I did find out that my insurance from work apparently covers 40 massages a year (with $20 co-pays). 1, that's awesome and why didn't someone tell me sooner - and 2, I'm totally going to need one after next weekend XD
Whose idea was it to have the convention over Easter, anyway? It's also my dad's birthday. o_o;
For anyone who remembers my posts a while back about the zombie-man/orc-in-a-suit story idea, I finished a painting of the 3rd character over here. She does crazy stuff with blood. Her once-holy powers seem to be changing into something much darker - quite against her will, as her life up 'til now has been devoted to fighting the undead. Being somewhat of a legend in her town for dealing with them, the orc takes the zombie man to her for help... and then STUFF HAPPENS.

X3 So, you may remember my latest request for literary entertainment. I bought most of what was recommended - whatever the local B&N had available. And now I've read them all, so it's Review Time :D In reverse chronological order:
Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. The book that the tv show is based off of. Bought this one last night, having read everything else - and I DO love that show, which turns out to have stuck to the book almost word for word. Can't talk too much about it without giving away the massive spoiler of Season 1 (the best season). I actually thought the show handled the suspense a little better than the book, although it did take longer. Still a worthy read, especially if you don't have 8 hours to watch Season 1 on dvd :D
The Sharing Knife (Beguilement) by Lois McMaster Bujold. Actually I just finished book 2, but I'm counting them as one. This one was enjoyable; the whole world set-up is actually really interesting, although the tone of the book is light and comical at times (at least, comical relative to other fantasy). It's kind of a shame...the story is original enough that I was kind of hoping it'd go full epic, but the author doesn't seem to want to get that serious about it. The snarky writing is entertaining though.
Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. This was a re-read; I bought the book for Garrett (who likes the new tv show based off it), but since he hadn't picked it up, I took pity on it. I remember liking the series back in 6th grade, and it's still pretty good. The "romance" is a little...unromantic though, looking back. I find this to be a common flaw in books written by men. But of course, I'm not a man. Maybe they have a different definition of the term? I seem to remember Richard & Kahlan having a more interesting relationship; maybe that happens in the later 4 books. In this one, Richard just goes "she's purdy" and that's it for him, he has found his soulmate! Hm. I snuck in another re-read of Kushiel's Avatar after reading it.
The Myriad by R.M. Meluch. A sci-fi! Which I haven't been reading too much of lately - sad, since everything is better on a spaceship. This one was pretty fun. The ending was a little odd - very sci-fi. It made sense, but at the same time, wasn't very satisfying. I thought the whole Roman thing was kind of funny - Rome has been secretly spreading throughout the world! But no one knew! Until they rose up and started making a Roman space empire!! XD Not a main plot point in this book, but I did giggle when I read it. There was also a brief, unexplained kissing moment at the end there that seemed more Greek. XD
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I liked this one! Good characters, a huge cursed city and unconventional magic and...zombies? Zombie-like people? XD It's cool. I wish it'd been longer. There were a couple things that seemed almost randomly thrown at the reader - interesting, important things that probably could have used some expanding. But that's super nitpicky. I'm definitely going to look for the other series - Mistborn?
The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold. Enjoyed this one a lot! Written in a more serious vein than the Sharing Knife books, although there are still clever, funny bits in the writing - the poor guy has a demonic possessed tumor but he can still crack a joke! I appreciate that. I think this author has a thing for older men or something; all the male leads are like, 40+. They're likeable enough; it's just oddly recurrent XD
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Ha, call it blasphemy, but I liked the movie better. The storyline seemed scattered in the book, while the movie was more coherent with a tighter plot. I'm not particularly motivated to read the sequels.
That's all I've got for now; out of books again ;_; Many that were suggested were books I've already read, too - Neil Gaiman, Robert Jordan, George RR Martin, so on. I'm slowly recreating Barnes & Noble's Sci-Fi/Fantasy section on my bookshelf at home. Yikes. XD

I'm probably going to be spending most of my free time this month preparing for Sakura Con. Undertow updates will be a bit...untimely. As usual, I'll try to squeeze in a page where I can; but I definitely want some new fan art to sell this year <3 Last time generated a pretty hefty income for one weekend, and that was in a dark hidden corner booth. This year I'm told we're on the Skybridge of the convention center, so I have high hopes. Also unlike last year, I'm staying in a hotel instead of going back and forth each day...so the pressure's on to cover the cost of that XD

It took a long time to ink, too, for some reason. Stupid fur. I keep shooting myself in the foot with character designs XD
Not much else is news...my cat gouged my drawing hand open on Friday. It looks like I got drunk and tried to slit my wrist or something, since it's around an inch off from deadly XD. It's been sore the last couple of days but it's fine now, just ugly. And I think Willow feels sorry - she's been uncharacteristically subdued. Also, I did get around to reading Inkheart, the book. I actually liked the movie better...the plot was more cohesive.
Maaan I HAVE to start preparing for Sakura Con. February is half over!! O_O I don't even know what anime is popular these days! So out of the loop. I'm probably just going to stick to video game fan art. @_@

Eeek, my comic page is not even close to finished O_O;; Sorry guys! My weekend was weird. I heard from a former teacher from college about a start-up, and now I think I'm an on-call concept artist if they get some work...which is awesome! :D I spent Saturday running errands and talking on the phone, I suppose. I also watched the Little Mermaid DVD...the "making of" was kinda lame though, it seemed like it was nothing but creator ego stroking with 5 minutes of actual production talk thrown in about Ursula's design.
In any case, I'll try to finish the next page some time during the week somehow... @_@;

Eeek...instead of finishing my comic page, I went and saw Inkheart with my mom, who's probably the only other person who'd want to go with me.
EDIT: HAH, I finished the page anyway!
But, dude...I'd watch anything with Brendan Fraser in it. And double that for anything with Paul Bettany in it. Especially Paul Bettany fire-dancing with no shirt on.
Did I mention I'm buying this movie when it comes out on DVD? XD;;;
Seriously though - has anyone read the book? I guess the movie got kind of "meh" reviews and everyone said it was a disappointment after reading the book. I've got $175 in Barnes & Noble gift cards from Christmas to eat up and I need some suggestions! Here are some books I like, so if you read these, I especially would like to hear your suggestions: -Outlander series -Kushiel series -Robin Hobb's first two series...not so much the latest one -Golden Compass books -Ender's Game stuff

The site's still having some speed issues on the FTP end, but I'm gonna try and make new vote sketches anyway @_@
I'm playing the World Ends With You on DS, finally. Strange...but good. I keep wanting to NOT play it so I can get Shutdown Experience on the pins that need it to evolve, though. What kind of leveling system is THAT? Stop playing, or you'll never progress! @_@ It has good music though. I love the song that's all rap and then the singer guy's like, "STOP! CANDY-CANE!" ARGH. My site is having crazy problems right now...sometimes it works, most of the time it times out. It still loads...just very slowly. What's more annoying is that I can't stay connected to it long enough to FTP @___@ Hopefully it'll be fixed by this evening. Gragh!
The next comic page may be delayed - because of this, or because I might not be able to work on it tonight as planned. My beloved demon fuzzball of a cat has brought fleas into the house, and tonight I'm hoping to bomb the living daylights out of 'em, which means I have to vacate the premises for most of the evening while the massacre is taking place. My house will become the flea Alderaan. I hope all their little flea voices scream out at once - and are then silenced.
Time to go buy me some Death Star.

NEW PAGE UP. Along with a few additions to the fan art page, which was awful to re-organize, by the way.
@_@ I missed my target date by a couple days, but I blame that on getting icky sick last week. And then trying to go to work anyways. And being sent home 'cause I was turning funny colors. And then leaving the car light on 'cause I was too feverish to notice, resulting in a dead car battery. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! X_X
While I was sick, I made good use of our finally-shipped couch by watching hours of Dexter. That show is so...so GOOD I can't stop talking about it!! Augh. I have 2 episodes left in Season 2 (please no spoilers!!! The ending of Season 1 was so mind-blowing-ly good that I would cry if this ending is ruined for me)!

First, Faeryll for enerjak:

And he comes with silly comic:

Also, a Bogart for alienpigpen, since my chibi Pelias seemed like a lame trade for an awesome 3d Rikishi model XD

That leaves just one left from me. Although now I'm thinking I shouldn't have posted anything until I saw the request-er post some art, too... next time I'm just going to say, "First 5 people to comment can request art, if their names are alienpigpen or enerjak, because they're the only ones who actually do it!!!" -_-;
Got snowed in today! Very pretty. It would have been cool, except that I couldn't get anything done that I needed to since stores/print shops/banks were closed. And also, the truck delivering our couch that we've been waiting for for over a month got stuck in a ditch -_-;;; I did get the Big Christmas Project done today, though. Dunno when I'm going to finish it, since that requires a Kinko's trip or something. Baah! And I don't have the weekend, 'cause I'm leaving Sat-Mon for a short trip to St. Louis!!! WOOO. 7 hour flights each way...stopping in Colorado, each way....it had better not snow me in there ;_;
